Weather was the leading cause of power outages in the US in 2020*. Extreme weather events, such as increased rainfall, droughts, extreme temperatures, wildfires, tornadoes and hurricanes, are set to rise in frequency and severity creating serious implications for utility companies.

About the experts

Eric Beaumont, CFA

Senior Equity Research analyst, North America Power and Utilities industry, Chicago

Eric has over 13 years of buy-side experience covering electric, gas, and water utilities, working as an analyst and portfolio manager at UBS O'Connor and Copia Capital, LLC. Eric was a Vice President at Barclays on the North America Power and Utilities team until 2016, rejoining the firm in February 2018. In the interim, he was Vice President of Strategic Business Development at American Water. Before becoming a financial professional, Eric worked as a consultant to the utility industry with Navigant Consulting and as a nuclear engineer with Commonwealth Edison. He graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management and holds a BS and MS in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.

Jessica Whitt

Director and US Head of ESG Research, New York

Prior to joining in 2021 Jessica was first a Senior Research Analyst covering Emerging Markets Equities then head of ESG Research for Emerging Markets Equities at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Previously, she was a Senior Research Analyst covering global and emerging markets automotive and industrials at Moon Capital Management. She has a B.A. from Colgate University with double major in International Relations and Asian Studies and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business with concentrations in Economics and Finance.
