Over the course of a decade, Managing Directors Denise Wong’s and Raymond Yu’s friendship has deepened in the face of tough personal obstacles and major life milestones.
A diagnosis of severe hip dysplasia confined Denise Wong, Asia Pacific Head of Consumer and Retail, Investment Banking to a wheelchair, and then crutches, for a period of time as she regained her ability to walk. During this difficult time, Raymond Yu, Asia Pacific Head of Power and Utilities, Investment Banking, was there for her as an avid supporter, colleague, and friend, which was instrumental to Denise’s recovery and rehabilitation process.
When Denise discovered that REACH, Barclays’ disability and mental health employee network, was dormant in Hong Kong, she knew she could count on Raymond to help her reinitiate the network to support others like her. Going beyond their work duties, the duo now actively promotes disability awareness both within and outside of Barclays. These activities have brought people, both clients and colleagues, across industries and divisions together to form more inclusive communities. This is their story.
